I believe both my age and experiences has influenced what I choose to paint. There are many times when I go through the creative process and strive to capture "A Slice of Daily Life" on canvas. Both the human condition and also my reverence for nature provide a wealth of subject material to draw on. In the creative process, I first decide on whether to focus primarily on the subject, or a mood that I'm attempting to convey. As I paint I decide how much symbolic or realistic elements I want to incorporate into the painting. When I paint portraits, many of the subjects that I select to paint live on the fringe of society: whether they are a barker at the State Fair, a Harley Davidson biker, a wrestler, a Vietnam veteran, or a ninety year old farmer. I'm passionate about capturing the essence and uniqueness of each individual. I am currently working on a series of small paintings of nature and animal life. I especially love painting the many varieties of birds.
